My Go-To Spot Treatments

Spot treatments are my life because I get at least one breakout every two weeks. I’ve either had too much dairy (I should avoid dairy 100% but cheat sometimes) and/or stress. When I travel, I never leave home without spot treatments. It’s hard to predict when the next breakout with happen. When I can predict a breakout is on the horizon, it’s because I feel a small pain under my skin. When this happens, I immediately begin my spot treatment regimen. It’s my attempt to get ahead of the problem. Nevertheless, not all spot treatments are considered equal. For instance, some treatments are great for treating non-cystic breakouts and some are great for treating cystic breakouts which I tend to get the most often.

My Go-To Spot Treatments

CLEARASIL® Ultra® Rapid Action Overnight Patches

I think this new to the Clearasil product line. I discovered these on a trip to Target about 6 months ago. When I sense a cystic acne coming on, I pop one of these on and it helps bring it to the surface so I can treat it quicker. Aside from what I just mentioned, I love these for a number of reasons:

  • They’re clear so I can wear them to the gym
  • They’re super sticky so when I wear them at night they don’t fall off
  • They reduce inflammation

I usually wear these overnight and with a pack of 18, they last me a good while.

Clean & Clear® Persa-Gel®10 Acne Medication

I’ve been using this spot treatment for about four years. This primarily works on superficial acne (non-cystic) because it’s closer to the surface. The medication in this acne medication is not strong enough to reach deep down for cystic acne unfortunately but it works wonders on surface issues. I also use this overnight. I dab some on my trouble areas and in about 5-10 minutes it dries and I can sleep without the treatment getting on my pillow.

Mario Bedescu Drying Lotion

One of the things I love about this drying lotion is that it contains calamine which is full of wonders because it helps with acne, insect bites, head lice, the list goes on. The drying lotion dries pretty quickly but it does tend to get on my pillows. Regardless, it works really well on whiteheads and that’s about it. I would not recommend this for cystic acne.

Are there spot treatments that work for you? I am always interested in hearing what works for other people.
